I am not sure if it is because I am swedish or if it is because I am who I am, but here is my first breakfast in Bologna - I chose between the poor sandwiches I see. But those portuguese people (Ana and her parents, José and Joselinda) know how to do it, I can hear a lot of chatter and soon they have lovely fresh sandwiches to eat... I decided to never order before them again.
I started my visit the night before this poor breakfast, with a fun dinner with Paolo from Topipittori, whom I am so pleased to finally have met in person, and the very sweet couple Paola and Luca from Notari Publishing (which happens to be the swedish illustrator/writer Emma Adbåge's publisher).

Jose and Joselinda, it is like names from a fairytale.
Next time you'll come to Italy I'll reccomend to have brioche and capuccino for breakfast... at Piazza San Marco in Venice :) what about this? Or at Prato della Valle in Padova :) I'm pretty sure you will love it :)

About your poor breakfast, I have the same problem when I'm in Sweden. First I wonder what I want to order but now I've learned to pause and think, om jag vore svensk, vad skulle jag ta?
The street in the third picture is Hell's Alley. It was the main street of the medieval Ghetto. Did you know it?

As someone said before, in Italy for breakfast you must order a cappuccio and a brioche (a cornetto, if you are in Rome or southern), they are always freshmade every morning. The best : )

Oh those sandwiches in Italy are the worst!!! never ask for tramezzini in a bar....panini is always the fresh option : )))
